Hi all

Just had my LS-W2.0TGL fail...  It became tempremental, Power & network activity lights flickering and then all I get is the red LED warning repeatedly flashing 6 times...

All I can find from the manula is HHD drive error...

So, how do I determine which drive has failed, and how do I replace/fix it.... Can the drives be removed and placed in a PC, for instance?

I desperately need/want the data that is on it.

It was bought with 2 x 1TB drives and mirrored to protect the data

I hope someone can help....

Thanks in advance...

Well, can't say as I'm impressed so far.

Contacted Buffalo Tech Support to be told that the firmware on the box has buggered up.  Provided with the TFTP access instructions to connect..

Then told that there is a 50% - 60% chance of losing all the data.... Do what ??

Why on earth would you design something like that ? Surely not..  Surely the fireware/software within the box sould be seperate to the data to prevent this sort of thing, I mean it's common sense...

I can understand losing data if a drive had become faulty, although this was mirrored for that reason so even then.....??

Please, someone tell me that this is not the case, that the data is still recoverable and how to retrieve it...

And where was your backup?

1. The LS-WTGL is a number of years old.

2. RAID IS NOT backup! it offers redundency in the event of a HDD failure. If the RAID fails, your data is gone, if the unit does not power on, your data is gone etc.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

This unit was sold to me as backup...

That RAID provided redundency and therefore it was safe to use...

Now I find out that this isn't actually quite right.

I understand that if a drive fails the data is gone, it's why they were mirrored.  With hindsight I can see now that if RAID fails then the data is gone, but surely if the external box fails the data integrity on the disks themselves should still be intack?

If the unit doesn't power on, then again, it's the box and the data should still be on the drives..?

I understand that if the worst event happens then the data is gone, but surely there should be alternatives to investigate before doing something that will result in wiping the drives?
