PlugPlayer 4.2.2 on iPhone 4 - LAN or 3G - Fails to Find My LinkStation Duo

I'm using PlugPlayer 4.2.2, but I've been unable to access content on my Buffalo LinkStation Duo using firmware 1.64, from my iPhone 4 via 3G (or WiFi).

I've gotten the Buffalo 'Web Acces i' client to work, so I know that my WebAccess Service and Shares are properly configured. But, of course, that client is unsatisfactory.

On my router, I've 'Opened' NAT Filtering, and I've added Custom Services to the Port Forwarding list for the NAS IP address on both the 'NAS Internal' and External port numbers shown in the Buffalo Web Access setup (it's not clear to me whether the internal Port must be 'forwarded' to the router, or the router is to 'forward' traffic arriving at the external port; I presume the latter). Is the 'Service Name' important?

PP does not 'find' the NAS even when WiFi connectity is established, but my primary concern is 3G. Based upon the advice from 'abramsh' at PP..."Discover the device normally in PlugPlayer on your LAN. Press the blue > button next to it in the devices tab. Set the base URL override to "http://<external IP>:<external port>"."...I've substituted my external and IP and port values, but PP indicates..."Error: Could not find the XML description file at the specified URL".

So, it would seem that I should focus first on the LAN/NAS setup. Given that I've already gotten the Buffalo 'Web Access i' client working via WiFi and 3G, what might be lacking that would prevent PP from finding my NAS when I select 'Refresh' on 'Select a Media Server...'?

By the way...In my router, UPnP in 'On' and 'UPnP Portmap Table' shows TCP protocol is active on the internal and external ports of the IP address for the NAS. Should PP devices be configured as 'Allow UPnP Control' = On?

How does the configuration and use of UPnP relate to the Port Forwarding configured elsewhere in the router?

In the related PP Topic "DeviceDescription.xml for Buffalo LInkstation", what does 'alison' mean by "check what port the Plugplayer is reading from"?
