admin user deleted - how to reset TeraStation TS-RVHL

While trying to add our new NAS system (TeraStation TS-RVHL) to Active Directory, we had accidently added a user in the local area and conflicted with a user in AD. When attempting to delete the local user, the admin user and guest user were deleted. We now no longer have admin access to the web interface.

I have read on many forums that there is a INIT button, which in my case i believe to be the 'pin hole' button under the LCD screen (bottom right when looking at the front of the chasis). When pressing this button, the system beeps and restarts, but no IP address or user settings are restored to factory defaults.

I have tried forcing a Emergency Mode so that I can reflash a firmware and reset user settings without need for admin password credentials, but I cannot get that to load either.

Do you guys have any suggestions for me? Thank you in advance.

I booted to the system with a Ubuntu LiveCD and made a copy of a admin user in place, and was then able to get the admin user to login, but has no access to make any modifications etc. I can now login and do firmware updates, is this the best way to go to drop all the local users/groups and re-create the defaults for me? That way i can log into the device with the default passwords etc (admin/password).

Please give me best practice to restore my NAS to factory settings. At this time, there is no data on the drive, so I have no concerns for data loss etc...

Cheers

Hi,

Any update on this?  Were you ever able to get it reset to factory settings?

I'm trying to deal with one at work, but it has a password in place and we don't know the admin password, so we're kind of stuck.  I asked Buffalo support for help two days ago but haven't gotten a response yet.  I also don't care at all about the contents of the device, just want to make it usable again.  I can't find any "Init" button on this one, and everything I've tried with the Function/power on process does nothing.

Thanks for any update.

Boot it into EM mode and reflash the firmware in its debug state selecting "Delete user config"
