WZR-HP-G300NH - format disk is slow

I am using a WZR-HP-G300NH to format a USB HD.  Format type is XFS.  Its a 500 GB Maxtor One touch in MFR enclosure.  Inside its probably a 7200 rpm Sata I.  I called Buffalo support who suggested that 1 TB drives might take 2 hours.  Its been over 3 hr now and the Airstaiton settings still just says STATUS:  FORMATTING.  There is no indication of completion.  No %complete, No blinky light, nothing.

1  Other ideas how long this should take?

2.  Other posts indicate times greater than 24 hr.  Is this realistic?

3.  What happens if my computer were disconnected, or power cycle of the HDD or router?

Thanks

OK, I am going to reply to myself now.  Shortly after I posted, I saw that the blink lights on the Maxtor drive (one off, one blinking) indicated the drive had gone to power save mode (sleeping), whereas before both lights were solid (transmitting), and the format was probably running OK.  I clicked refresh on the air station settings page which updated the status to FORMATTED.  It did not change by itself.  Not sure how long it actually took, but probalby less than 2 hr.

If possible, i'd like to suggest to Buffalo that some process indicator be programed into the system and made available in firmware.

Thanks
