expanding array size

i replaced my failing 4tb drives with 6tb drives.  after recovering the array, it's still showing 4tb.  how do i expand without losing my data?

I don't think the Buffalo firmware has a way to expand arrays in that way.

There is a guide to doing so manually but I think it relies on newer versions of mdadm using the latest metadata format:

The examples are all ext4 specific and would be different for the xfs filesystem even if it did work.

I think it would be much safer to create the new array and copy the data over to it.

so this model will support a 6tb drive i assume?

you're saying i should copy the data off the array to something external, delete the 4tb array, and see if i can build a new 6tb array?

That's correct, you'll have to delete the existing array and create a new one.

so back to back 36 hour waits to rebuild the array was a waste of time!

guess i know what i'm doing next time i have a disk failure or run out of space.
