Newbie help, can't fix my LS-CH1.0TL

Hi all

Essentially the problem is that I am now getting a red light sequence on my nas, indicating an E16 error code, which apparently suggests the following:

"Hard drive cannot be found.
The hard drive is not connected, or maybe failed. Set the hard drive again after shutting down the LinkStation."

However the odd thing is that I can both access the web access of my NAS and the different features (eg. bittorrent), and also still access the shared folders on the drive. I can copy files off the drive as well. I can hear the drive being accessed.

As a bit of context, my NAS has never been the most reliable - it often seems to freeze, either on or off (ie. freezes with a blue flashing light, and won't turn off if you turn it off, or it won't boot up when you turn it on) and nothing can be done with it except to unplug the power lead and plug it back in, to start it working again. I've just put up with it for quite a while but figured it would be good to update it to the latest firmware, v1.60 (I was operating off v1.34), to try to resolve some of this but the update failed half way through. I can't be certain whether the problems started immediately after this or not but it seems reasonable to think it has, although it may just be coincidental. However, I haven't been able to get it to update and since then the unit when turned on just started flashing blue and then switches to the red light sequence (one long, six short). I have tried to force through a reset to factory defaults via the web access but to no avail (the web access still advises me I have firmware version 1.34 installed, but I am still getting the red light sequence).

Don't know if this is pertinent but in web access I can still see the different folders I created through the web access under shared folders -> folder setup, however when I go to system -> storage it lists disk 1 as 'disconnect'.

I opened the unit up briefly just to check the connector hadn't fallen out a little but it all looks pretty securely in place (without really knowing what else to check). I've also tried the FAQ 1-3 (ie. Boot EM procedure, Force Firmware Update procedue, TFTP boot procedure), but I can't complete any of the processes listed:

EM Boot procedure - it fails at the holding of the function button - it never goes solid, just continues to flash, and eventually goes out. The power button continues to flash blue for a bit longer and then returns to the red light sequence.
FFU procedure - I follow through all the steps but simply the lsupdater does not get a response from the device at the initial stage of updating. I've tried following the steps listed if I am having issues with the update but again it does nothing. Incidentally, and I don't think it's relevant but just in case, I have some additional lines in my lsupdater.ini:

ProductID = 0x00000011
ProductID2 = 0x00000012
ProductID3 = 0x00000013
ProductID4 = 0x00000014
ProductID5 = 0x00003006
ProductID6 = 0x00003007
ProductID7 = 0x00000015
ProductID8 = 0x00000016
ProductID9 = 0x00003008
ProductID10 = 0x00004001
ProductID11 = 0x00000017
ProductID12 = 0x00000019
Name = LinkStation

TFTP boot procedure - step 9 just never happens, it never comes up with the 'blocks served' lines.

So anyway, any help would be very welcome. Have I goosed my unit, or is it saveable and if so can someone give me some reasonably simple instructions on how to do this!

Thanks very much in advance.

the data partition more than likely has a physical fault.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Hi, thanks for your response. Do you mean there is a physical fault as in I need to replace the hard drive or as in I need to format it and start again, or something else?

ALso just had a very odd thing happen that has not happened before, I've just turned it on (it is now plugged into my router again) and looked for it on NAS Navigator. Normally NAS Navigator purs a red warning triangle and exclamation mark on it and tells me something is wrong with it. This time it has fired up with a yellow circle and question mark in it, and the name ZÕ¾T. It is also shown as being in EM mode. The light on the unit is still flashing as before, ie. e16 error code. I thought I'd try to run the lsupdater again to see if it could do anything but it asked me for a password to be able to run it which is neither the default "password" nor my own password. I also couldn't access the web access or shared drives. I ended up turning it off and on again and now nothing comes up at all.

I'm thinking it is just on its last legs and slowly dying but if anyone has any suggestions I'd welcome them.
