Hi at all

I was googling about half an hour, searching this forum another half an hour but couldn't find a proper answer.

I have a LS Duo (LS-WXL) with 2 1 TB drives configured in Raid 1. I'm running out of space so I want to expand the storage.

The manual (http://manual.buffalo.jp/buf-doc/35011501-1_DE.pdf)" target="_blank">http://manual.buffalo.jp/buf-doc/35011501-1_DE.pdf) tells me about replacing hard drives if the fail but not how to upgrade.

Can I just buy two 2 TB drives

Remove the first drive from the LS, replacing it with the one of the bought 3 TB drives

Restart the LS, rebuild the Raid 1 on the webinterface

after it has finished, remove the second 1 TB drive and replace it with the second bought 3 TB drive

rebuild the Raid 1 again.

After consulting the manual I guess it is possible. I only don't know if the Raid 1 then is only 1 TB in size or if it expands automatically to the full 3 TB available?

I would be very thankful if someone could help me regarding this question.

If it is not possible the way I thought it should be what steps do I have to perform to expand my storage, keep it at Raid 1 and most importantly keep all my data.

Thx in advance.

there is no way to upgrade the internal HDDs without erasing the data on the unit.

First backup your data, replace HDD1 and rebuild the array, once done replace HDD2 and again rebuild the array.

Once this is done you need to completely delete/recreate the RAID array in order to see the new capacity.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thanks a lot for your immediate answer.

BTW. Now the NAS is recreating its Raid 1 Array.

Since it takes a long time and I am supposed to do it twice and delete it after it's done twice... Why not just backup the data and replace both drives at the same time, create a new array and save the backupped data on the new array?

Would there be a problem with the firmware?

You will need to TFTP the linkstation if you just replace the drives straight away.
