A few days ago I wanted a quick way to erase all the settings and data from my LinkStation Live so I logged into the control panel and chose the Erase function. This started formatting and resetting the device to factory defaults, only for whatever reason it didn't complete. When the device was eventually restarted I got flashing red lights, 2 long followed by 2 short. According to Buffalo technical support this is a problem with mounting the disk. Also according to technical support this can only be fixed by sending the device back to Buffalo for a repair under the warranty. However in my case, the device is no longer under warranty and Buffalo are not interested. I did ask if it was possible for me to remove the drive and manually partition and format it, which the answer was yes.

I have already removed the disk ready for partitioning and formatting.

How should I partition the drive?

Are there any special partition requirements?

What file system should I format the drive in?

Ok, in theory e22 is not the end of the world, since you have removed the hdd just format it normally and run a diskcheck even better if you have a tool to check the HDD. If it all goes well put it back in to the ls and keep the fingers crossed for E06 error and follow the steps from FAQ(3of5) hope it works for you.

I have now formatted the drive and added it back into the LinkStation.

I have managed to perform the TFTP Boot proceedure but the LSUpdater can't find the device.

Any ideas why not?

1. Either your using the wrong firmware

2. Your anti virus or firewall or blocking the updater

3. The IP addres of the LS and PC are not on the same subnet.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Nevermind, I think its dead now. The function button wasn't working after I assembled the device so ended up having to open it again. It would appear the tiny function button on the pcb has become "stuck" in. Since I have no way of getting it out, I think its going in the bin?
