Linkstation no longer accessible after OSX Mountain Lion upgrade

Hello all. Would really appreciate help on this... LinkStation was working fine with Snow Leopard. I upgraded to Mountain Lion and not I cannot access it. I can still see it in the Finder Window Sidebar, and I can access the admin panel via the server's IP address, but I cannot mount the volume on my desktop to get to my files.

 

I encounter this error message: "The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem."

 

Here is the technical info on my device:

Description: LinkStation-LS-WTGL76F

Model: LS-WTGL/R1-V3

Firmware: 3.09

Have you tried both SMB and AFP when trying to mount HDD?

I'm not 100% sure what setting I have at the moment but believe it's SMB. Will look into it, try the other protocol and and report back later tonight. In the meantime, here's what Buffalo tech support said when I emailed them the same question:

 

The latest firmware available for that model is 3.10, but unfortunately the firmware update utility is only available for the Windows platform.

 

Unfortunately Apple updated the SMB protocol used on 10.7 and 10.8 and broke their backwards compatibility with older versions of that file sharing protocol.  They actually did this with 10.6 but then eventually release a patch to the OS that fixed the issue.  

 

As a work around you can enable the FTP service on the Linkstation and then have the computer connect to it using the FTP protocol.  

 

I'll try the FTP option as well and report back, though I don't think it will be viable for my workflow. I suspect it'll be too slow. I recall trying it a couple of years ago...
