Port 80 goes to the linkstation mini login screen.  I setup my linkstation and routher to use port 81.  Now I want to point my domain example.com to my home ip 192.168.1.100:81.  Anyone now of a free service that can do this or a cheap serivce that will do this?

If i put in:

192.168.1.100      it goes to linkstation login screen

192.168.1.100:81 goes to the web server on the linkstation

You should take a look at http://www.dyndns.org" target="_blank">www.dyndns.org, to redirect your interal IP to a external IP.

I fixed the problem.  Anyone looking for the answer it can be done this way.

1.  Log into linkstation and setup the webserver on port 81 (or whatever you like) and save

2.  Log into your routher (im using ATT 2wire VDSL modem)

3.  Go to your firewall configuration and find the ip of your linkstation

4.  Do a user defined application

Looks like this on my 2wire modem

Application Profile Name  (any name you want)
Create Application Definition
ProtocolTCP        (Use TCP)
Port (or Range) (Port range 90 - 91 or what ever is free on your system)
Protocol Timeout (leave blank or use default settings)
Map to Host Port (Map to port 81 linkstation webserver port)
Application Type                         -
Note: In some rare instances, certain application types require specialized firewall changes in addition to simple port forwarding. If the application you are adding appears in the application type menu above, it is recommended that you select it.

5. Save and the add new application to your linkstation ip.

Now you can use zoneedit.com or something similar to forward to traffic of your domain example.com and it will goto you dsl or cable modem ip.  Instead of going to the linksation login screen it will show you linkstation webserver.

If you still need the linkstation login screen.  Do the same as above but instead of port 81 use port 80.

Just so you know, undertai's directions are correct, but since so many of us don't have any idea how to mess around with our routers in order to do that since every router has a different way of doing what he suggested, here are the steps you can follow to easily set up a simple web development environment. These instructions are for Windows.

1) Access the Admin Screen for your Linkstation. It should open up in your default web browser. Take note of the IP address in the URL. For example, in my screen, it is 192.168.1.207. On yours, it will be something similar. Highlight those numbers and copy them using CTRL-C.

2) In Windows, go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and open up the hosts file using Notepad. Add this line to the bottom:

YOUR.IP.ADDRESS    server

So in my hosts file, I added:

192.168.1.207    server

3) Log into the Admin Screen for your Linkstation. Go to Networks -> Web Server and enable the web server. Point the access folder to /share/ or you can add an additional folder under the share folder if you want and then point it to that. Anyway, once it is enabled, point your browser (in a new tab, preferably) to http://server:81/ and you should see a message that lets you know that PHP is working.

4) Now add a new folder into the "share" directory that is called data.

5) Back inside the Admin Control Panel for your Linkstation, go to Networks -> MySQL Server and enable it. When it asks you what folder to use for data, point it to the /share/data/ directory and finish enabling it.

To access phpMyAdmin, point your browser to:

http://server:81/phpMyAdmin/

And yes, you must have all of those /'s, even at the end of the phpMyAdmin. And yes, the M and A must be capitalized within the URL or it won't work. It's an Apache thing.

The username and password for phpMyAdmin is the same at that for your Linkstation Admin Control Panel

That should take care of it for you, but if you have any questions, let me know.

You theory works jwcobb13 :) Thanks.

Also, maybe you might know, im trying to set up a PHP and MySQL Web page using my LinkStation Pro Duo (LS-WVL).
Using my WebAccess page to view the files on the linkstation that your method created.
I am wanting to know where or what directory to place my own folder containing all of my "images, members, scrips, styles and numerous PHP Script files" out of the "cgi-bin, htdocs, log" for the WebServer or "mysql, phpmyadmin" for the MySQL based files onto the linkstation? These folders are empty.

I have created my own Social Media Network (like Facebook, and without trying to sound bias, possibly better), in PHP and MySQL formats.
But Buffalo doesnt describe in manuals where and how to do this, well to my knowledge anyways, and i have searched many times in google, youtube and forums for this kind of info, and given up multipul times.
Id really like to see my social media network online, to know that my several weeks of scripting hasnt gone to waist, but im not sure if my LS-WVL will do it, im inexperienced with the knowhow of the LinkStation, but i know its capable of PHP, and MySQL. I ran my own "php_check.php" to see if php is working, and it is.

And im trying to avoid the costs of a Domain Hosting Site, if i can get my linkstation to do it.

Any help or opinions are appreciated in advance.

Thanks,

Andy.
