I have a new Quad Pro (LS-QVL/e with f/w 1.4) which I have set up successfully. I have enabled the squeezebox media server extension and it appears to work fine and serves up music to my remote Squeezebox player.

However, the plug ins within the squeezebox server settings don't work as there is a message at the top of the page saying "...as you're running Squeezebox Server in safe mode, the plugins are not available". There don't appear to be any options anywhere to run the server in 'normal(?)' mode so any help would be appreciated!  Without the plug ins I can't get access to the squeezebox player screen savers that I used to have with my old (to be retired soon as this issue is sorted) linux media server.

Thanks!

PS - also is there a way to update the server from the current 7.5.1 to 7.5.3?

Just discovered another issue (for me at least) with Squeezebox Server. I have some music which have Japanese & Chinese characters. These display fine on my squeezebox player screen when using my old linux based squeezebox server (v7.2) but which don't display at all (blank) when served from the linkstation. The characters show up ok in when looking at the filenames and tags in file explorer, and in the squeezebox server album display.

Bought this unit on the basis of its excellent price and have no expectations other than things should work as advertised!

Just upgraded to 1.41. Plug ins still don't work (due to squeezebox server running in safe mode)  - any help would be appreciated.

I'm open to correct from Buffalo here but as far as I know the squeeze box server on the buffalo Nas are striped down versions and so add on's cannot be added.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

Seems strange to do that when presumably it costs them nothing to use the software, other than programming effort.  After all, the promotional blurb doesn't say 'crippled squeezebox support only' (and indeed Buffalo prominently proclaims squeezebox functionality on my nas's packaging) so it would be reasonable to expect that at least the included plug ins should work even if users can't install new ones or even update the software.

I think Buffalo should make a clear statement about this so that prospective buyers (including myself) aren't in any doubt about what works and what doesn't, or fix this ASAP. To be honest I don't use most of the plug ins but screen saver (and as an aside asian character) support is important otherwise things like the clock display (and the very cool VU meters :smileywink:) aren't available.

It seems like alot of you guys are using 5400/5900 Eco Drives, I cant remember what I was reading but it was saying to use 7200 drives for best performance. Do you think that using the green drives is the reason that you are getting the lower speed than recommended?
