I would like to have the HD on the linkstation auto park the heads and spin down during periods of low activity.  This would help reduce power consumption and still keep the drive ready when needed.  The auto park would also help prevent drive failure and data coruption in the event of power failures.

+1, It is also could be implemented as configurable option - "autopark in inactivity period XXX minutes"
