Title: Linkstation Live HS-DH500GL DLNA Music Artist index broken
Post by: kieran on January 22, 2009, 02:51:22 PM

I have got a Linkstation Live (FW 2.11) hooked up to my network with a bunch of music on it. The streaming works just fine, but the indexes appear a bit broken.

Album, Folders, Genre are all listed correctly both in my PS3 (FW 2.60) and from my Nokia N95. However, the Artist and All Music folders are broken.

Once I actually get to the music via the genre or album folders it all streams just great, but my most useful view is Artist and that is broken.

The Artist folder goes down alphabetically and just stops in the mid 'A's on the PS3. On my Nokia N95 it just says "Selected device rejected the operation" when trying to view the "Artist" list, but the others are fine.

I have done the usual turn it off and on again, flash the index, refresh the index, etc...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kieran

Hi,

Strange....

Question: Does this media present by Artist on a windows box  (say..Media Player) in the same format - meaning are all the artist represented correctly or are some not present / does the list stop?

Does the artist folder, as presented on the PS3, always stop at the same point?

Brute force - if you delete the non presented artist (ie. the one immediately following the last presented) will the presentation list on the PS3 change?

The Content Directory Service on the Media server is responsible for allowing the Control Point (PS3) to enumerate content as well as search.   Media servers can store CDS information using a DB, simple directory/file hierarchy or other method.   No idea how this is implemented on the LinkStation Live...  but I would believe the Mediabolic app is involved in managing the DB since it manages the "update" function via the web GUI

Seem like the meta-data which describes the artis attribute can not be retrieved past a specific point. Clearly the Control Point can begin the search by meta-data attribute "Artist"... so is the media server not able to continue do to a "search fault" mechanism or underlying data retrieval issue

So for me the question is if content can be found by other methods (Genre, Folder, Album meta-data), then the backend can be enumerated for content by the Control Point ...so this mechanism must be working... to a point.

The Artist in question... was any of the data edited or entered manually?  Thinking.. maybe the data is getting malformated when the meta data is being formatted for presentation to the control point.  Really need a tool to query the underlying structure to confirm the meta-data is ok.

Again strange...

PS search for the intel "Overview of UPnP AV Architecture" it is well worth the read..

I know how to solve your problem. Throw the linkstation in the bin and buy a different media server all together!
