I am not 100% sure but I don´t know why it shouldn´t. My "belt and suspenders" system consists of raided LS Pro Duo 2TB and it daily backs itself up into a 500GB Drivestation, USB connected. Runs perfectly.

And in addition if you want to save energy and only uses the Drivestation for backup: You can use a standard clock timer for the power outlet that only switches on the Drivestation during the time of backup. For example: I've configured a weekly backup at 2 a.m. my clocktimer activates the Drivestation at 1 a.m. on the respective backup day, LS PRO DUO recognised the new USB-devices and mount automatically, the backup takes place at 2 a.m., lasts about 3 hours and my clock timers shuts down the drivestation at 8 a.m. (a little security overhead if my LS PRO DUO will need more time in the future if it's filled up with data).

Only handicap: the LS-PRO isn't able to unmount the Drivestation automatically, therefore you receive a HDD_error mail (if activated) after shutdown. These error-mails are not self-explanatory because they are only refering to a "HDD-error" but you can identify this by the time they were sent.

The Linkstation should work fine with a 1TB Drivestation.
