Hi, if i am going over old ground then please accept my apologies. I have just done a disk erase (which took 3 days!!!). When i login now i cant get past the login page and i am met with this message :
Currently a Format or Disk Check is being carried out.
During this time the LinkStation settings can not be changed.
Also the file share service will not be available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Gaz
This shouldn't be taking three days, the unit probably got hung up. Rebooting it should bring it back to its normal state.
how do i reboot the system please
Depending on the model LS Live that you have you will either have a power button in the front (press and hold until the unit starts to shut down), or you will have a switch on the back that you flip to Off (this will take a minute or two to shut down)
I'm having exactly the same problems, and a search on the forums shows that this is a common issue. My problem is:
Unit: Linkstation Live 640GB Bitorrent (LS-CHL334)
Disk erase was performed that finished the 4-stage overwrite and now the web interface is stuck on the disk check screen and NO OTHER options are available. Unit has a On/Off/Auto switch on the back. I have tried:
1) Switching to OFF and then back ON after 2 mins.
2) Doing (1) with the function button held down.
3) Flashing the firmware (successfully) to v1.06 which also reset the password etc.
EDIT: NASNavigator shows the following error information:
LS-CHL334has error or infomation.

I have no idea where to go next. The web admin screens are accessible but since I can't click on any of the left nav options I can't perform a software reset.
Suggestions welcome! :(

Did you perform a force update of the FW? With Deleting Userconfig?
If not I would try that.
Thanks for the reply Kevin. Unfortunately this has not helped, and after the forced update with the user option checked (and even tried the delete partition too) the situation remains the same.
Would gladly take further suggestions!
James

Guess i'll have to return this hunk of junk then? :(
Hi!
I have the LinkStation Live with Bittorrent 1TB (LS-CHL1.0TB), which I bought a week ago. Everything worked fine until I did a disk erase. It took about 3-4 days completing all the four stages and After that I am met with the same message as the first user reportet in the Buffalo web interferance:
"Currently a Format or Disk Check is being carried out.
During this time the LinkStation settings can not be changed.
Also the file share service will not be available."
If there isn't a solution to this, I would like to exchange my unit to a fully functional one.
Thanks,
Hesam
i took mine back in the end and got it replaced.......now i only ever delete things from the web access and i dont use it to store things on for fear of losing them. I soleley use it to download while my imac is switched off
How did you get it exchanged, went to the vendor or via Buffalo?
Good question...
My unit started erase 2 weeks ago..and not finished yet....
bit longer,no?
Just took it back to the shop, told them what had happened and they didnt even check it just gave me a fresh one!!!!!
Now when I type in the IP given to the Linkstation, it says "Internal Server Error". The NasNavigator 2 program dosne't find the LinkStation anymore.
I tried setting the power switch to OFF (which was suggested in this thread), the LinkStation still stays powered on. Very strange...
I had this same thing happen with my first LinkStation Live as well when trying to do a disk erase. Incidentally, my second drive has the same issue that my first drive had that made me try the erase feature. I am going to attempt to force a firmware update tomorrow.
It seems that there is an issue with the 1.06 firmware that can make corruptions of the file structure happen quite easily. There are numerous posts here with people needing to force updates and check all the config options after doing thing that shouldn't render the drive inoperable. I don't see any of these problems discusing the old firmware. Hopefully Buffalo will figure out what is going on and get us an update quick like.
So... what do I need to do to make my linkstation work?
a miracle!!!!!
seems like it... won't be recommending it to my friends, that's for sure.
You could try to force the firmware update a couple of times. Make sure that you have your software firewall off on the machine doing the update. If it doesn't work the first time, try again. Unfortunately that is all that I have for advice. It eventually worked for me.
I'm going to give back my unit to the vendor and perhaps trade it in for another brand. This was really unfortunate, as I really think the device has potential.
Alright, got my unit exchanged for some storecredit.. I think I'm going for a QNAP next time. Bye guyz!
I saw this issue on our lab's LS-CHL... disk erase, then Internal Server Errors... The fix was a firmware force with all four config options checked. Make sure your firewalls are off. You may need to try a few times.
