Title: LinkStation Pro Duo 1TB, vanished from XP machine
Post by: jjdreese on January 16, 2009, 11:49:37 PM

We have two PC's here, one is a 64-bit Vista and one is an XP machine.  I installed the Pro Duo and it was working fine.  The Vista machine recognized it easily and iTunes recognized it automatically.

However, the XP machine shared files just fine, but iTunes would not recognize it.  So I installed Bonjour and voila, iTunes sees it just fine.  However, now it won't let me open any of the shared folders (through the My Network Places icon).

I've tried disabling the firewall, etc..., but my XP machine simply won't let me open any of the folders on the Pro Duo.  It shows the folder names, but won't let me open them.

Problem solved.  I read on another thread that the Workgroup name was causing problems.  When I tried to play with that, I found that my XP machine wouldn't let me change the workgroup name; instead it said I had to install networking.

Keep in mind that I'd been sharing files and networking was working great up until I installed Bonjour.  Well, turns out the Windows Browser Service had been disabled.  When I enabled that, I could see and view all the folders & files on my LinkStation.
