Hello,
I just bought a linkstation mini. The installation went well.
The linkstation is connected to a Netgear DG834N (wifi and ethernet box). The other component of my home network are two XP Pc (Pc1 and Pc2) and a TV screen (Loewe Connect Media) connected thru wifi.
I found that when the XP Pc1 is not booted, the linkstation is not seen/detected by my TV screen which includes a netwotk media player. I can access the linkstation with Pc2 with its IP address and connect to the web management GUI.
If I boot Pc1, then the linkstation is seen by the TV.
I started an ethernet trace tool (wireshark/ethereal) in order to analyze the traffic. It is clear that Pc1 is providing a kind of name service repository function, protocol messages taged as NBNS/BROWSER, that seems to allow the dialog between the linkstation and the TV. Note that I can see the advertisement messages sent by the linkstation.
So, am I doing something wrong here ?? My though were that I could setup this media server stuff with only the TV and the linkstation, no need to have a Pc running all the time.
Is there a configuration switch that I am missing in order to have the linkstation implement the name service repository function ??
Thank's for your help
Jean-Michel
Configuraton:
Linkstation Mini 500G
firmware v 1.05
Pc 1 and 2 under XP SP3
DG834N
TV Loewe Connect with embeded media player
Hello,
I finally succeed. The solution is: be patient. After a while, depending upon the announcement interval of the linkstation, the connection is setup without the help of another repository system.
