Title: Fried Motherboard
Post by: JohnG on January 14, 2009, 10:33:21 AM

Hi,

I have a Buffalo TeraStation - HS-DH2.0TGL/R5 with a fried motherboard. I bought it 15 months ago, so it's out of warranty. I was running RAID 5? (I had about 1.5 of 2 TB available for storage and it was capable of functioning with 1 bad drive). I'd like to have my data back and believe the drives are fine.

1. Is there a way to get a replacement board?

2. Is there a way to buy a new box without the drives and use the existing drives in a new box?

3. If I buy a new Teraserver and simply replace the new drives with the old drives, will I be up and running with my old data and 4 replacement drives for when the old drives fail?

4. Any other suggestions?

 Thanks.

1,2) As far as I know there are people (on there own) who sell just the shell. Unfortunatly I am not sure who, sorry.

3) If  you buy a another TS, it has to be the same model (HS-DH) in order for it to be able to boot and allow access to the data.

4) If your drives are good you would be able to plug them into a Linux machine and run a RAID5 configuration between to access the data.

Hi,

I had this problem a few months back. Finally found a solution.

If you urgently need the data, you can try using this software called UFS Explorer Pro.(not freeware!)

Its able to add in a virtual drive to replace the bad drive thus creating a virtual RAID 5 array.

After that you can try doing a quick scan to see your data. Once you can see your data, you can proceed to copy the data from the virtual Raid Array into another storage.

You can try searching for another software similar to this but so far, in my case, this software still beats the rest.

Hope it helps!
