I have a Linkstation HD-HG400LAN.

Some time ago, I updated to what I thought was the latest firmware (1.61).  As some of you may know, that is for the Japanese version, not North America.  I no longer have the 1.42 firmware file, and Buffalo no longer supports this device, so it's not on their site.  Every driver site tries to send you back to Buffalo for download, which has been removed.

Anyone have it?  Also, Anyone know if having 1.62 could contribue to real slow file transfer speeds across a home LAN?  (Running vista on my pc, and have tried all recomendations to increase/improve file transfer speeds across a LAN due to some issues Vista natively has.

We also have a MAC in the house which suffers from slow file transfer speeds to/from the NAS as well.

Buffalo still supports all their NAS devices, even this one!

As far as know both the 1.42 and 1.62 are for the North American products, maybe you just need to revert the language back to English in the GUI. However, both FW versions are on the downloads section of this site, make sure that you select "LS Gigabyte" and then you will all the downloads available. 

Thanks for the link.  The reason why I'm looking to revert to 1.42, is I read that 1.61 was for the Japanese product (I can log in in English, but If I use a root login, or click on Buffalo in the upperleft, it reverts to Japanese).  One poster indicated that the 1.61 may make the Link Station run slower.  Don't know if it's true, but don't know what else could be cauing my Link Station from running slowly during transfers.  I'm running Vista, (patched up to date), and I have another pc which is a MAC OS X which runs very slowly uploading/downloading files.

This includes wired connections to the device via router (and wirelss).
