I'm trying to backup to a USB drive I've attached to my Linkstation but when I run the backup, all it does is create a log file.
I've reformatted the USB drive to EXT3 as suggested in the manual.
I'm using firmware v1.02.
Thanks
One thing that I would try doing would be to go to maintenance and there's a sub tab of that which is initialize. Once there I would select restore to factory defaults. It doesn't delete your data, but it will change the firmware settings back to factory. After that I would try doing the backup. A lot of problems like that can be fixed by doing this procedure. If that doesn't work, re download the firmware and fallow the force flash procedure in the knowledge base.
Cheers
Are you trying to run a scheduled backup or an immediate backup? If it is a scheduled back it has to be scheduled for at least two hours later then the time you set it up.
Otherwise I would try Clearing out all backup jobs then initialize the unit (through the web interface, go to "Maintenance") and then setup the backup job again.
I'm trying to run an immediate backup as its the first one. Surely I shouldn't have to reinitialize it, its brand new.
On a seperate issue, why is it so slow copying files into a folder on the same drive. So far I'm not very impressed.
The reason for initializing it is to clear out any files that are "stuck" and got corrutped during the backup, this usually fixes most backup issues. First I would delete any jobs that you have created though.
The most likely reason for it being slow in coping files is that you are transferring them using your computer, so... those files are going to your computer then back onto the LS. In a way they are being transferred twice AND over a network connection.
If after initializing the unit it still cannot complete a back sucessfully OR the unit is acting slower then it should, try force updating the firmware! You can find how to do that if you go to the "Knowledge Base" then search articles for "Force Update".
Is there a way to transfer the files the speed any other drive would copy them??
You also mentioned about corrupted files and files getting stuck, nothing was backed up when I run the backup, all I got was a log file.
Unfortunately not, due to the nature of the drive.
Make sure your backup job is set to backup the correct folder.
