Title: LinkStation-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.07 Failed to Join ADS
Post by: azmath on January 09, 2009, 05:12:37 AM

HI,

I am trying to join domin but it fails.  I have Windows 2008 server, configured with Active Direcotry.

My domain settings are :

Active directory domain name : IP adress of DC

AD DC name : blrodc.com

username : domain addminstrator name

passwd : domain administrator password

Win server name : IP address of DC

Does Linkstation support win2008 server ?

Regards,

yes but you will have to be on the 1.08 or 3.08 FW (depending on what device you have)

Here are some tips:

2. The Linkstation, the AD Server and the end-user have to be lcoal.3. Don't try to setup anything from a Server OS.4. If anything failed, reset the unit to factory defaults.5. Some facts:      a. max 1000 users/groups can be used     b. no sub domains are supported,     c. remote connections don't need to work,     d. even so it supports a domain network it won't support any Server OS,     e. don't assign rights to users/groups which includes admin in the name,6. To avoid any trouble, check/setup the following:     a. The date, time and time zone on the linkstation have to match the AD Server Setting, with one minute     b. The primary DNS address on the linkstation have to be the IP of the DNS/AD server,     c. Use AD server administrator (which is the Administrator) with a password without special characters,     d. The details to join have to be taken of the Server and can't be provided by us,     e. On any ongoing issues with the joining dismiss the WINS IP,     f. Disable any kind of security software on the AD Server,     g. Sometimes it helped to create a computer account on the server, with default settings, and than rename the Terastation to this name after a restart of the linkstation itself. (name of the computer account)     h. When it's joined but the shares can't accessed, try to use the IP address of the linkstation instead of it's name and restart the linkstation to might get any Domain connection error messages on the web-gui.

NOTE: FTP don't work when your linkstation is joined to a domain network! When you join the linkstation, you apply to delegate all access restrictions done by your domain, but domain users or groups can't be used for FTP at all. Therefore you can't activate the FTP server on the web-gui.

Hope this helps

That's a lot of useful info from davo, as usual :)

He missed one thing, I think. Make sure the time zone is set to the same as the DC.

Make sure you use the domain name in the AD domain name field, and the netbios name of the DC in the AD DC name field (not the fully qualified name). If you're running a pre- x.08 firmware, make sure you reset the device to defaults (Maintenance->Initialization, Restore) after updating to x.08.
