I keeping getting an error message when I try to add a LinkStation LS-500GL (Firmware 1.15) to Active Directory.

 

'Failed to join Active Directory Domain.
Please confirm the Active Directory Domain setting information, Administrator user name and password.'

 

I'm using an admin account, but not the admin account. Does that matter?

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The NAS devices currently do not support MS Server 2008, only 2000 and 2003.

 

If that's not the issue, there are a few other things to try. Make sure your time zone is correct (EST is GMT -5) and that the time is set within 5 minutes of the domain controller's time. Make sure the Primary DNS server address is set to the IP address of the DC. Also, ensure that there is something in the WINS server address field; if you're not running a WINS server, put the DC's IP address in this field. 

   

I have the same issue and no matter what I do it will not work.

 

I have a ls-1000gl that I can not add to my domain.

 

admin account with a simple password and the time is set to the server.

 

 

How many users do you have on the domain? What OS is your domain controller running? Is the domain part of a larger domain, through a parent-child trust relationship or anything like it?

   

Less then 100 users

is not part of any other domain 

What is the GMT of your NAS set to?

Our units don't automatically adjust for daylight savings time like windows does. If you have an incorrect gmt set, as far as the linkstation is concerned your attempt to join AD will always fail. Consult chart below. 

 

 

US Time Zones:	During Standard Time:	During Daylight Savings:
Pacific	GMT-8:00	GMT-7:00
Mountain	GMT-7:00	GMT-6:00
Central	GMT-6:00	GMT-5:00
Eastern	GMT-5:00	GMT-4:00

 

   

We also have a Linkstation 500GL. I once added it to our Win 2000 AD - that worked out (I just created a computer with the according name, enter the domain credentials in the LS - blank field for Wins Server).

 

After changing to 2008 Server whatever I do (time zone, delegating options, dns entries ... i think there is not much I haven't try) it always fails to join the AD. Inside the AC monitoring I can see the station request a Kerberos ticket ... but no further message or error.

 

As we use it for Backup purposes I felt back to local users and conntect to the drive by a share on my server (with additional user credentials).

 

I guess is a incompatibility that must be solved by the vendor with a Firmware update. However, the most current Firmware is 1.15 if I am right from 2007.

 

So If anybody succeeded adding the drive to a 2008 AD please share the magic ...
