Model#: HD-CE1.0TLU2-US
Model Name: HD-CELU2
Firmware Version: BUF-CELU2-1.4T3 LOADER 3.5 W1.7
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1
Connected To Network Router: Linksys Wireless G- WRT54GS
Format: FAT32(Corrected 7/28. Originally NFTS)
I am having issues utilizing a variety of search utilities to find files on this network drive.
In trying to discover the reason for this I find the following anamoly:
Results of DIR Command in root drive of HD-CELU2:
A:\>dir /s
Volume in drive A is SHARE
Directory of A:\
01/01/2008 01:01 AM <DIR>
01/01/2008 01:01 AM <DIR>
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 495,430,467,584 bytes free
This is an odd result because there are dozens of directories in A:\.
If I go to a directory in A: and perform a DIR, I get the same result:
A:\l_Dad\auto>dir
Volume in drive A is SHARE
Directory of A:\l_Dad\auto
09/13/2010 09:14 PM <DIR>
09/13/2010 09:14 PM <DIR>
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 495,430,467,584 bytes free
Using Explorer, I do see all folders and files as expected.
Is there a way to get the command prompt to respond properly?
How are you accessing the the Drivestation?
Is it in USB mode or NAS mode?
Thank you for asking.
>How are you accessing the the Drivestation?
The Flexnet drive is wired to a Linksys wireless router via an ethernet cable. All PC's connect to the drive via wireless.
>Is it in USB mode or NAS mode?
LAN= NAS mode
I had the same problem; the DIR command in a Windows 7 command prompt window doesn't work properly; however, DIR with the /X switch does. Go figure.
Also, after mounting the share on a Windows 2000 machine and checking the DIR command, it works properly, but again, with Windows 7 it does not. So there is a fundamental difference between the two OS and the DIR command. BTW I have the HD-CELU2_1.4.7 (latest as of 04-Dec-2013) firmware installed.
So Buffalo techies have not updated the firmware to handle this, it would appear.
The on-call Buffalo tech support recommended that I format the drive in NTFS using the USB connection from the PC. However, I was then unable to map any LAN share on the Buffalo drive to a drive letter. I formatted the drive from a browser window (the partition type doesn't show up anywhere using the browser-based format window), but back in a USB connected environment I checked and it was fat32; so don't format your drive with NTFS unless you are going to use it EXCLUSIVELY as a USB connected drive.
Good luck, this was a 4 hours sojourn that I hadn't planned on. Hope this helps someone.
