Title: TeraStation error: EMERGENCY MODE NO ARRAY INFO
Post by: Cepheus on June 18, 2011, 12:44:45 PM

Hello.

I've got an issue with a TeraStation (HTGLR5) that suddenly stopped starting up, saying "System now booting...".  I checked all drives are connected properly, which they are, but now I get this message: "EMERGENCY MODE NO ARRAY INFO".  This makes me think the RAID array is screwed and I've lost the data.

I've had a good search around and not found anything useful.  I have tried using the firmware updater as suggested in some forum posts but it doesn't find the unit (and doesn't allow me to speficy the details) even though I can ping the unit.  I can't access it via a browser though.

Some other forum posts suggest starting it up with the init button depressed - there isn't one on this unit!

Does anyone have any idea how I can get this up and running again?  If the data is gone so be it, I just want to get it working again.

Thanks,

Dave

What firmware version are you trying to reinstall? Make sure your anti virus and firewall is totally disabled.

I got the latest firmware from the Buffalo site, which is 2.16.  Is a newer version available elsewhere?  And is this what I need to do to fix it?  I don't seem to be able to do anything with it while it's in EM mode.  What do I do to get it back to normal mode?

What is the full model number of your unit (Beginning with HD or TS?)

The full model number is HS-DH2.0TGL/R5 (HS-DHTGL/R5 series)

OK so, download the 214_102 firmware (the only one for the Terastation Live!) to your windows pc.
Unzip the firmware, turn off your antivirus and firewall software.
Double click the TSUpdater.exe file --> Update.

This should reinstall the firmware allowing you access to the unit again.

Davo, you sir have saved the day!  I managed to update the firmware and now the system is up and running again, with all security in place and files accessible.  I have a degraded RAID array now but that's easy to fix, so I'll copy what I want from it and sort that out.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me out - especially on the weekend :)

I have the same model, I have 214 firmware installed, but received the same error.  I re-updated the firmware, it rebooted and flashed and rebooted but 2 minutes later, it's in emergency mode, front panel says "Cannot load the kernel"

Any other thoughts?
