Title: LS-CHL 1tb - Can't open some files MARKED WITH RED CROSS
Post by: mckonen on January 02, 2009, 03:45:13 PM

Everything worked perfectly, until one day I noticed that there are some files marked with red cross. The problem is especially some files which are not in the share folder, these files cannot be opened from web or with windows file manager (vista x64).

But anyway I managed to open these files with FTP connect.

What could reason for that?

Are you on a cross platform network here?

Are those files from a linux/mac machines?

When you say not in the share folder what exactly do you mean? Do you mean just floating about underneath the share, not placed in a sub-folder?

So I have several folders underneath the buffalo; buffalo\share\my documents\pictures\ , buffalo\share\my documents\videos\, buffalo\files\***.iso, buffalo\files\***.rar  so on.

I just noticed that when files are copied (by ftp) from files folder to share the folder the red cross will dissappear and files can be opened normally!

I solved this by moving all files to /share -folder (ftp transfer; 4 hours)->no more red crosses and files are readable now.

But in generally it looks like this network storage isn't very reliable.

You can not trust this as a back up storage, there have to be a separate disk for BU purposes!

Good points are fast bittorrent download and media features.

In the matter of fact, if I could return this back, I would buy synology or qnap instead.....
