Title: Linkstation/Terastation fat32 direct windows access
Post by: alig2 on January 02, 2009, 11:23:10 AM

I am trying to set up along term storage/achive system for files that only need direct access for a year or 2, but that will allow easy file retreival in the future.

I want to set up a 4 drive system as 2 seperate RAID1 arrays, so they appear as 2 separate drives to Windows and format fat32.

When an array is full, I remove both drives and store separately for archiving.

Can I later access one of these drives by simply connecting it to my PCs sata connector?

Or is the partition or MBR unreadable directly from windows?

Or am I missing a more obvious solution?

Thanks

The units that buffalo sells, use a software RAID controller, the format of the drives are in XFS.  You can on a terastation, set up 2 Raid arrays, however as it is a NAS it will only be accessible via Ethernet.
