Title: DriveStation HD-CE1.0TU2
Post by: Adonis on January 01, 2009, 07:47:43 PM
I just bought the 1TB external drive on Christmas and stored about 5GB data into the drive. Now when I tried to access to the drive from "My computer", I got this message "G:\ is not accessible, The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." G:\ is the Buffalo drive. OS is Windows vista. I don't want to re-format the drive. How can I access to the drive?

What file format is the drive in now?

How is disk manager seeing the drive?

I formatted the drive as NTFS after I bought the drive. Disk manager can see the drive "RAW" now.

Do you have data on the drive that is not backed up?  When you right click on the RAW drive in DM what options does it give you.

I had the same problem.  Windows refused to safely-remove because it said the drive was in use despite all programs on the desktop being shut.  I guess something like Windows Search could have been scavening...

Anyway, I unplugged USB after checking for no activity - audibly and with solid green LED. The drive immediately powered down, so I think this is going to be a problem with the auto-power down: you absolutely have to safely-remove before unplugging, or shutdown Windows if it won't.

I deleted and reformatted the drive - fortunately I am at the early stages of my backup strategy.  Will post back if the problem occurs again despite vigilant safe/shutdown removal.

OK, it has happened again - this isn't acceptable...

The disk is now showing as RAW and healthy in DM.  It was formatted as NTFS and was mostly full with backup data but Explorer and other tools say it is now corrupt and unreadable.

HELP - must I RMA the drive?

It has not been unplugged from the host machine at all, running Vista on an Asus P5W-DH Deluxe mobo.
