Title: how to create shortcut on a Mac?
Post by: msierra519 on March 28, 2011, 12:15:38 AM

hi all, i finally was able to get my Buffalo to be recognized on my Mac, but is there a way to create a shortcut so that its easier to access?  or do i have to go through finder and find it manual?

You can create a short cut by going to finder, then go , connect to sever and typing in the ip address of the unit. Once you connect and select the share to mount, it should show a short cut on the desktop.

This is precisely my issue, and does not seem solved by this answer.  Everything with my Buffalo NAS linkstation pro duo set up fine.  My mac mounts the drive no problem, but i can't seem to have a shortcut on my desktop.  I know its a first world problem to have to keep the file open in order to drag and drop, but if there is a solution to having a shortcut on the desktop it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Also, in attempting the above solution, an error came up when putting the ip address in the network setup in finder.

Thank you

I forgot to ask what error message you were getting, however try this,  SMB doent work try AFP

Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server. Enter in the path (e.g. smb://10.0.0.189/mySharedFolder. the "smb://" if it's a windows share). Drag the newly created shortcut, on the desktop (Finder -> preferences if you don't see it), to a Finder window into the folder that you want it in.

Click on the new alias and it will automatically connect, if not connected already.

Thank you, not only did it work perfectly, but it showed me what I missed.  Finder -- Preferences had unchecked the show servers on desktop.

Thank you again.
