I just received this LinkStation today via Amazon.com and I really need it working soon.
There has to be an easy eay to setup this LinkStation. Buffalo you make it too hard. This should be Plug and Play. Not everyone is a techie. I need some real help here or this thing is being returned.
Here is the problem. I am running a desktop using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit OS plugged into a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH router. The NAs is seen in the client listings on the router having picked up a DHCP address. I loaded Navigator 2.0 from the CD and after the installation, the program starts the discovery and setup process. The NAs is discovered within 5 seconds, but after running the setup for about 3 minutes, it errors out with Failed LinkStation Setup.
I have rebooted the PC using msconfig and disabling the startup items and services not belonging to Microsoft. I have also disabled Norton's Antivirus and firewall. I have recycled power on the NAs several times and the setup still fails. I tried all the FAQs and troubleshooting recommendations with no luck.
I am thinking there has to be a way to access the web based setup interface on the NAS, but when I use the IP address that the router has assigned, it cannot find it. I do not have another PC or laptop to try this on, so I do not know if it is my desktop or the NAS that is the problem.
There has to be a simple way to setup up this NAS. Does anyone know how? I need this working in RAID 1 as soon as possible.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
First, this unit is plug and play. Plug it in, find its ip address, and your ready to go. Since you already know the ip address all you have to is open a web browser and type in its ip address and start working away. If you want the NasNavigator then download it seperately from http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads. If you have issues with accessing the share from \\theip in the run command and you are running Windows 7 anything higher than home premium, then follow the general FAQ about how to change your NTLM settings.
I finally found the solution... I had to download the lastest formware upgrade and do a forced upgrade. Now it works and I have it formatted as a RAID1 array. I am so proud of myself, it works now.
I just bought the Linkstation Duo and was trying to install it to my PC (running Windows 7). After the intial "boot-up" (blue led), it toook a long time for the unit's Function led to turn Red and after it (red led) stopped flashing, I connected the ethernet cable as instructed. But the CD installer always ends up with installation failed for the NAS navigator with the error message "No linkstation available." I also think its the firmware updating process that is the probelm but how do you update the firmware without being able to connect to the PC or the internet? Please help
Ok. you have the LS connected to your Router and your PC is on the the same home/work network,
Make sure you have disabled Antivirus Software and Firewall on you PC
Also make sure you download and install Latest NasNavigator Software.
No reason for Nas Navigator not to see it.
Assuming there are no LEDs flashing on the LS.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have connected the NAS to the router (linksys WRT610N) na the PC is also connected to the router. The router is configured to connect to the internet with my DSL modem. They are in the same network. Yes, I have disabled the antivirus and firewal (Norton 360). After the flashing blue LED light (I assume initail boot up), the red LED followed and I pressed the function button. After that the red LEd Function LED light started flashing (for a long time = 10 mins). When the flashing red LED stopped and the BLue LED started on, then I plugged in the ethernet cable. I just used the CD installed that came with the box (version 2.24). I do not know if there is a new version of the Navigator. But when the installation runs, it reprots an error message that says "no linkstation available." I tried this procedure 3 times. I even "clened" the hard disk using DsikPart after each failed attempt. I do not know what else to do.
Run this software with your anti virus / firewall disabled and let us know if it can detect the Linkstation:
