Hi,
I just bought a Buffalo Linkstation LS-CH1.0TL and connected and configured it.
Problem is that i don't get the power saving working like it want it.
My old Maxtor NAS turned itself off when it wasn't in use (so inactive) if i connected via my PC to it, it just spins up the HD again.
Im using the NAS as a DLNA server for my new Sony TV (and for nothing else, i copy the movies from my PC to it and play them with the TV) Problem is that when i set the switch to AUTO, the NAS just powers off while watching.
When the switch is set to ON is stays on the entire day.
Where is the option to let it turn off the HD when the network is inactive?
Now, the disk is always running which is just a waste of power...
Maybe, there is no solutions, cause NAS need check PCs which installed NASnavigator. If there's no PC like that,it should fall into sleep.
When the switch is in Auto, the NAS is looking for a computer with an active NAS Navigator running, to keep the NAS awake.
thats a shame and pretty useless.
Why whould you need a DLNA NAS if it switches off when the PC turns off?
Anyway im returning my product to the store, i will need a nas which uses its power saving on activity not from a pc...
thanks for the answers
then use the power features in the GUI, with the switch in the ON position.
Dont hold your breath I have been waiting for working spindown since 2006
My old Maxtor Shared Storage II worked fine with it
and that thing's ancient
Buffalo dont seem to get that people own nas's to be accessed by multiple pc's and devices
so the dodgy wake on lan solution is no use at all
Oh and the power management tab is broken on 1.40
not that its much use anyway
LS-CHL (this thread's focus): BT USA is at FW 1.37 for this product.
I'm on fw 1.62 on a LS-WX2.0TL/R1 and my unit works in AUTO power management mode: same problem here.
It looks like the NAS in AUTO mode shuts itself down unless it gets periodical wake-on-lan messages.
One solution I would like to investigate is having my cell phone or tablet keep the NAS awake by appropriate apps.
Of course It would be a far more clean solution if the NAS could check itself for network ativity....
Hey BUFFALO, wake up!!!!
