Title: E04 Error on Terastation Pro II Rackmount
Post by: sauvagii on December 09, 2008, 02:02:32 PM

We have received the dreaded E04 error on a TSPro Rackmount (1tb edition) after a firmware flash appears to have failed.

I was advised to take each drive out in turn by Buffalo Tech Support, and attempt to boot.  When I had isolated the drive causing the problem, I could connect it to a PC, and format it, then return it into the array where it will be rebuilt.

My question is that the internal drives are formatted to XFS file system - so what do I do to reformat the problematic drive under Windows?

The purpose of reformatting the drive is not to correct the filesystem, as that would not work with the RAID. Formatting the drive with a Windows machine will allow the Terastation to recognize the drive is not part of the array; it should give you a disk error on that drive, then you can rebuild the RAID, and that should resolve the problem.
