Title: Utorrent Download auto add torrent script for Linkstaion Pro LS-XHL
Post by: echo34 on August 21, 2010, 10:16:31 AM

Hopping on this thread. Glad to see the utorrent client in the new firmware update. Is there a way or script to click on torrent links on websites and have the torrent automatically added to the utorrent client on the NAS? Saving the time and effort of saving the torrent file and then adding manually.

There was a script to do this on the old firmware on userscript.org early this year.

Sorry, we don't support the implementation of 3rd party or custom created scripts.  Doing so will void the warranty of the device.  In the future please don't post in an irrelevant thread, this is known as hijacking.

I don't see how this would in any way compromise your warranty with Buffalo.  @echo34 are you talking about a greasemonkey script for your browser?  That should be no problem.  This forum is probably not the right place for support in it though.  If you go to the developer section of the utorrent.com forums, you might have better luck.  You can't do anything like change out the webui that they talk abiout there, but adding torrents via the API should be possible.  There's a bunch of torrent adder apps that you might want to try out.

BNBT,

thanks for coming back, you've hit my blank spot regarding api but i'll do some more research. Better answer than the mod anyway.

The addition of scripts or APIs is changes to the firmware and with respect I know it may not seem it but a modification (hardware, software or firmware) is a modification.  Modifications void the warranty.

From the Guidelines in the main page:

(9) suggest or show how to make alterations or changes to firmware or hardware of Buffalo Technology products, use of DD-WRT, Tomato, or non-Buffalo-approved firmware (violates and terminates USA warranty of products.), or provide links to non-Buffalo-approved firmware or hardware how-to articles

I'll let you guys decide what's kosher and what's not.  In my opinion, what the original poster was asking about is not any kind of violation.  If I understood it correctly, what he's really asking about is a script or an app that he can run on his PC that will send torrents to his linkstation without using the web UI.  There's no change to the NAS in any way, just a change from using a browser to another input.

(would have sent this as a private message if I could figure out how)
