Title: LS-Q TL/R5 38+ hours to check empty raid?
Post by: Opsin on August 18, 2010, 07:56:09 PM

Just checking in to see if this is the norm.

LS-Q6.0TL/R5 : Firmware : 1.11

Brand new device. Client wanted two seperate drives so we changed it. Then after discussion decided RAID 5 to be the best option. Changed it back and now it is checking the newly created empty RAID. Estimated time: 2300+ minutes. Seriously? Is this the norm or do I have a defect here. Should they wait for it to be completely checked before depositing their 2TB of data on the NAS?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

38 hours is longer than it should take, sounds like the unit could have a problem, as opposed to risking bricking the unit I would suggest that you let it run its course and see if any other problems present themselves after completion of the process

Will do. This is the Quad 6.0TB model. After some serious digging I've noticed a few posting 32+ hours of RAID checks, not sure if they were doing rebuilds or just setup. It's currently 44% done after 14 hours, a little math says that it should be done around the 32 hour mark.

Thanks for the comment.

It finished this AM. Everything "appears" to be in working order. I'm a little nervous about keeping client data on this device. Has anyone else had the check take this long on the 6.0TB device (RAID 5)?

Thanks again.

I would say because the HDDs are a lower RPM and it is 6 TB, but it shouldn't have taken that long I don't think.  Furthermore, make sure the client data is backed up to a secondary backup (standard procedure in this case) if you/they are nervous about losing their data.

I exchanged it. As soon as it finished with the nearly 40 checking it would power off (instant power off) at around 8 minutes. Turn it on, the drives would fire up, eventually the machines could see the NAS, then a couple minutes later, gone. Hopefully this new one doesn't have the same issues.

I hope the same.  Sorry to hear the last one didn't work out. :(
