Title: Cooling fan has stopped
Post by: peroberts on August 15, 2010, 08:41:41 PM

I have only intermittent access to my Terastation HS. The Home page has the error message "The cooling fan has stopped". And in fact it has. But the fan works fine, just not when connected to the Terastation. Does this sound like a problem on the board? I would like to retrieve my data off the drives, but the machine is accessible for only a minute or so. Any suggestions? Thanks.

There is a definate problem with the communication between the board and the fan.  As for data recovery it is suggested that a professional recovery service be contact, there are also online programs available such as UFS Explorer

Thanks for your help. Can you confirm, given the limited information I have provided, that if the Terastation detects a stopped cooling fan, it "shuts down" or otherwise becomes inaccessible?

It will shut itself down trying to prevent the disks from overheating so data retrieval is more likely
