Hi,
I've been using a printserver for some years to connect several printers but since I've got a color laser printer I want to go back to the USB printserver option of the LinkStation HD. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
I have got a LinkStation HD-250LAN with Firmware 2.00.
I tried two things:
1) connect using PnP (//linkstation/lp) -> didn't work
2) connect manually via TCP/IP, IP=192.168.x.x (the static IP of the LinkStation, DHCP over-ridden), then I tried both RAW protocol (port=9100, SNMP once active / once inactive), bidirectional communication once active/ once inactive, and also tried LPR protocol with queue name "lp" ("el-pee") (SNMP inactive). I also tried both front and rear USB plug.
Nothing worked :-(, tired of trying ...
Does someone know if the Samsung CLP-315 printer is somehow incompatible with the LinkStation?
Samsung says it uses "SPL-C (Samsung Printer Language Color)".
I've read on this forum that a complete reset of the LinkStation including saving and re-mounting all data on it might help (yet not even all the time). Since this sounds really bad, I' be very happy with any better hint.
So thank you very much in advance,
Regs ebro
That is a really old unit. Well, a firmware update might be available via your regional Buffalo Tech website. However, if the printer was working previously and isn't now I would think that trying to re-initialize the LS might be a good first step.
Hi, and thank you for advice. I resetted the LS and tried a firmware update. Unfortunately, the latter "shot" my LS to "EM Mode" (emergency mode). I tried to connect my laptop to the LS by network card and could even ping it but I failed to install the frimware. Now it says that there is no firmware at all on the LS. Maybe I try to rescue the data on the disk (of course I missed to back them up before ...) by some HD adapter. CU, ebro
UPDATE: I deactivated firewall and virus scanner and then managed to update the firmware. But it still doesn't print, not even a test page (via the PnP \\linkstation\lp connection) ...
Try by IP address instead (\\[IP_of_NAS\lp) no parentheses of course.
Hi! After some testing I ended up asking the printer's support. They told me that the printer is GDI which means that it is not supposed to work on any printserver. This seems to be the reason ... Thanks for assistance!
Excellent, thank you for posting back your findings. I honestly couldn't find anything on this issue :(
