Title: Replace drive HS - DH 1.0 TGL / R5
Post by: patdundee on August 04, 2010, 06:58:53 AM

Hi Guys

How to replace a drive on the above model number?

Initial error

Kernel failed to load System was not detectable

Removed drives one at a time and found if drive one removed system was detectable

Upgraded to latest firmware

Still with drive 1 in the system is undetectable

Remove drive 1 and the system is detectable but after a short period of time Fails to load Kernel 1 and goes offline

Placed a new drive in bay 1 and booted up and the system will not get detected unless I again take drive 1 out.

How can you replace a drive if the system wont boot up with the new drive in and only stays detectable for a short period of time with the new drive taken out.?

All drivers are WD 250 gig drives but the replacement drive is a Seagate Barracuda as I cannot get a WD drive

I would recommend trying t a TFTP boot with the replacement drive 1 in the unit.  http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-3-of-4-TFTP-boot-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11015  Just to see if the unit is detectable from the TFTP.  If that does not work try the same procedure except with drive 1 removed to see if any results are yielded.  If you can get blocks to be served try a firmware update again
