Title: contents consist of a single unreadable file..?!
Post by: gaijin on July 31, 2010, 09:53:23 AM

So, my cat knocked over my Buffalo HD-CE640U2, and now when I try to view the contents of the hard drive, all that's there is a single file named "." that no program on my computer will/can read (windows 7).  When I right-click, view properties, it shows that the hard drive has 377 GB on it.... but where are all the folders and files???

I ran the error check under tools, which for some reason I can't copy here (it's in Japanese anyway), which basically said there were errors that it couldn't fix.  I ran it again, and it said the files were fixed, but I still can't find them.  There is only the "." file....??

If I buy a new hard drive, is there some way to get the files (that I can't see/access) onto the new one??

From the sound of the error you will need to obtain data recovery services, also pending on the format of the drive you may just be able to attach it to a local machine and use a recovery program to "deep scan" the drive
