Title: How to connect LS-WX4.0TL/R1 directly to PC via ethernet port?
Post by: goldenhours on July 24, 2010, 02:00:07 PM

Hi,

I'd like to connect my linkstation duo directly to my PC (OS: XP) without going through the internet router (i don't have access to that router as it is my neighbours' who lets me use his wifi).

I got reasonably far but now I'm stuck. Here's what I've done so far:

- I'm using a crossover cable connecting the linkstation into my ethernet port.

- I shared my wireless internet connection so an IP can be assigned to the linkstation via DHCP.

- the device appears in my network list as a UPnP device

- I'm able to access the linkstation's admin panel through my browser, set up a RAID1 array, created some shared folders

However, I can't find any of the shared folders on my PC. Also, in NASNavigator the drive icon has a question mark and when I try to map a shared folder to a drive letter it tells me 'remote default share is missing'.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? Or is my connection method a stupid one that just can't work? I'm a newbie to networking so I'd really appreciate if someone could talk me through it.

Thanks,

Try going to Start->Run and type in \\[IP_address_of_NAS] (e.g. 192.168.11.50) and see if you can access your shares that way.
