For the last several weeks we have been having connectivity problems with our TeraStation. We have not been able to successfully back up to it, nor can we download files from it.
The log file is filled with alternating messages like this:
Dec 1 04:15:07 TSBK kernelmon: cmd=lanact 0 full
Dec 1 04:15:10 TSBK kernelmon: cmd=lanact 1000 full
I set up a ping -t to it, which shows frequent "Request timed out" messages, sometimes with a number of the them in the a row. When this happens, I check the LCD display which shows NO LINK.
If I directly connect the TeraStation to a PC I do not have connectivity problems, at either 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps. I was able to update the firmware on the Terastation by directly connecting to a PC and transfer files off the TeraStation, but this has had no effect on the problem.
Normally the TeraStation connects to our LAN via a Linksys SD2008 gigabit switch. The cabling is Cat 6. The TeraStation is not using Jumbo packets. We've got about 12 computers on our LAN, with the new Windows Vista computers having Gigabit ethernet, and the older XP machines using 100 Mbps ethernet. We've got one old Windows NT 4.0 computer on the network, as well as an HP printer. This set up was working OK for 8 months, but now I'm getting the frequent timeouts and dropped connections. I've tried moving to different ports on the switch, but that had no effect.
The backups are scheduled to occur at times at night for different computers, so the network load should be modest.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
Any suggestions on an inexpensive gigabit switch that I could use to replace the SD2008, which might work better with the TeraStation?
Best regards,
Rich Dobbs
Additional Observation:
At this time, my pings are repeatedly and consistently timing out and I can't connect to the TeraStation, but the Terastation's LCD is showing 1000 Mbps link speed.

Same issue here, gone through two Terastations now connectivity is intermittent at best. Using a 3Com 24 Port gigabit switch, haven't swapped out the switch yet but I have 9 devices all running at a gigabit without issue. Moved the unit to ports where I have other equipment running at a gigabit but no change. Plug it into a workstation with a gigabit port and get a Com stable link without issue, plug it into a 100Mb switch and get a stable connection without issue. If anybody has a fix for this let me know I sure would love to have a functional product.
