I had a similar problem.  I had to disconnect the working drive then use the Linkstation NAS software to format the drive in XFS.  The NAS assigned it  then.

1.  I powered down the NAS

2.  Unplugged USB1

3.  Powered NAS back on and then USB 2 was there

4.  Formated drive

5.  Powered down NAS and plugged in USB 1

6.  Powered NAS back on and both drives were there

Model number and firmware version could be always helpful.

G'Day,

Sorry, I forgot:

TerraStation Pro

TS-HTGL/R5 F/W 1.33

--> System Status --> USB Details shows

both (!) Disks (Seagate  Desktop) with USB 2.0

I can format both disks on USB Port 1, but Port 2 is stlll "not assigned".

I remeber that I clicked the wrong button during a format try on USB Port 2 (the OLD disk there  died, I didn't knowed at this time), so it's possible MY FAULT.

HOW CAN I RE-ASSING USB Port 2 ???

Tnx for your help !
