Title: TS-RHTGL/R5 FTP
Post by: sbnet on July 05, 2010, 02:53:04 AM

I've had experience with the TS-RHTGL/R5's in the past, having deployed a few even for the company I work at, and am now trying to get one to cooperate for off-site backup.

Hardware between:

On-site includes:

Sonicwall NSA3500

*nix servers

M$ workstations & servers

Off-site includes:

Linksys WRT54GS

On-site computers in all platforms can connect to FTP servers elsewhere.  Running a quick free FTP server on a M$ laptop at the off-site location verifies that it's possible to get inbound as well; however, to get ftp into off-site terastation is proving impossible.

Attempted port forwarding as well as even DMZ but to no avail.  FTP shared folder support is enabled and FTP server service is enabled.  Firmware 1.33

There's nothing funny in the Sonicwall logs, no sign of any transmissions or receptions being blocked and yet the attempted FTP connections just hang.  I'm aware of buffalonas.com and "web access" on some other lesser models but this isn't an option for the rackmount Terastation Pro II's.

True I can cheat and take this unit on-site to do the initial transfer (crazy to transfer 2TB over the web in decent time on small-biz connections) but then I'd prefer to be able to FTP in to synchronize weekly changes.
