Title: LinkStation LS-Q4.0TL/R5 Raid Array missing after disk check
Post by: Namednil on July 03, 2010, 08:53:03 AM

After a recent power interruption, the LinkStation LS-QL/R5 was unavailable over the network and when logged into reported that it was performing a disk check.  After approx 36 hours the LinkStation was available to logon and check through the various options.  Under the shared folders the share still shows up on RAID Array 1.  Under the Disk Management, RAID Setup, RAID Array 1 shows as Not Configured.  There appears to be no disk activity and System Status, Disk Information reports RAID 1 and 2 Not Configured with Disk 1 through 4 in Standard Mode.  Had approximately 1.5 TB of data on the unit, most is backed up in various locations some is not.  Is there any hope for rebuilding the array with the information intact?

Model:  LS-Q4.0TL/R5

Firmware:  1.10

There would be an option to rebuild the array within raid management if this were possible, it is a "special" button per say that is not there during normal operation, if that button is not there than any type of restructering would lead to data loss on the unit.

So that being said what are my options for recovering the data on the device?  I have seen some user have used UFS, do you have any advice for that route?

I cannot fully comment on how UFS explorer is in terms of a raid 5, what I can mention according to other users is to get UFS explorer to recognize a raid 5 set up the disks need to be set in that fashion on the machine UFS Explorer is running on.  With raid 1 there seemed to be no complications as long as the disks were still spinning up and being read.  A different option is professional data recovery services with companies such as Drive Savers as well as local professionals
