Hi

I've recently encountered a problem with my hard drive - when I plug it in it makes a clicking sound and it is no longer recognized by "My Computer"; it is however recognized by the disk manager. After a few minutes the drive makes no noise whatsoever, but I still cannot access the files.

Is there any I can rectify this problem without corrupting/losing the files I have stored on it? I've been trying to back up files as I go along, but I didn't get round to backing-up all of them due to my final university exams.

The hard drive is a HD-CEU2 and is around year old - can't see the receipt, but I know I bought it last year. My operating system is Windows Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using the drive on Vista I am taking onto account the format is either FAT32 or NTFS, if there is a clicking sound but the drive is still recognized it is suggested either contacting data recovery service or a program from the internet that may be able to still pull info from the drive, majority of these programs have free trials to see if the data is retrievable.

I've tried a couple of programs but both are saying that there are no files on the disk at all; that the disk has zero capacity.

Is there anything else I can do or does it sound like the disk is knackered?

Only other suggestion I can offer is professional recovery services, a good portion of the companies will offer to look at your drive for a small, or no charge at all to determine if the data is recoverable or not
