Title: Can't login to my Linkstation Live(web interface)-Can any 1 confirm if there's an official login bug
Post by: BargeBoard on June 29, 2010, 10:16:12 AM

Can anyone confirm if there is a bug with the login system for the Linkstation Live (HS-DH320GL). I have had my Linkstation Live for a couple of years now with no problems but recently i treid to login to it (at http://192.168.1.9/ but it keeps telling me the password is incorrect)

I saw a couple of posts along similar lines here (and here) but I dont believe there was any 'official' repsonse from an adminitrator confiming the issue.

Colin 137 in this post says "This is an issue that we've had a very tough time isolating... I'd like to know as much information as possible about configuration, events leading up to the issue, and the setup of your network."

For ref my firmware is 2.10

Linkstation Live HS-DH320GL

Also I can login to the "guest" page so it isn't a firewall or network issue. And i can access the contents of the Linkstation Live (ie my music etc)

The following is taken from a different post i made and WILL work on your unit if you follow it correctly.

If it is not accepting the admin password then enabling the debug options on its own will not work, you need to first of all get the unit into EM mode then carry out the debug process.

- Power the unit down (disconnect the power)
- Reboot it, if the power led is still flashing more than 60 second's from the first beep on, disconnect the power and retry.
- do this until the unit's power led is constant 50 seconds after the beep and the unit is on EM.

- Please bare in mind that it might take several attempts to get the unit into EM mode (upto 20 times)
- To confirm the unit is in EM mode the letters "EM" will be displayed in the hostname of the Terastation in the Nas Navigator and the firmware will be displayed as "---" or no firmware at all.

Once it is in this state carry out the debug process (especially deleting the users config) and let me know of the results, also the process of trying to get the TS into EM mode by pressing the reset button when powering on doesnt always work so try the process i outlined above.

Thanks for the reply davo. Couple of questions:

(1)Whats the EM mode? Is it difficult to use? While I would have fairly reasonable computer skills, I'm not a command prompt/console/terminal user.

(2)Will doing your fix delete or alter my 'shares' on the Linkstation and/or my other settings for the Linkstation?

Is this a known issue? Have Buffalo acknowledge it in any way?

By doing your fix does it fix what ever caused the problem in the first place or could it happen to me again?

Thanks davo

I tried your method 20 times with no success.

I then tried the Buffalo's way (With the reset button held in on start up) 8 times with no success. (The software engineer that wrote the code to enter EM mode should be strung up)

Then I tried the hold-the-rest-button-for-10secs and that did work.(It didn't get me into EM mode but did reset the password. And for the record it did not (thankfully) reset my other settings, such as backup details or NTP time server setup.

However, now the Linkstation will not mount my regular USB backup drive. It used to do it no problem. I have restarted the drive. I reset it for a second time but it won't mount the USB drive. What is going on?

My opinion of Buffalo is rapidly heading south.
