Title: v1.31 firmware for LS-WXL/R1 and LS-CHL broken?
Post by: kitonne on June 15, 2010, 06:41:13 PM

1/  I am trying to update one LS-CH1.0TL-R from v 1.07 and the updater says "Linkstation that needs updating not found".  I also have on the same subnet a LS-WX2.0TL/R1 which was found and updated correctly from 1.26 to 1.31.  What do I need to do in order to update LS-CHL?  Per the readme, both models are supported by the same firmware and same updater....

2/  After update to v1.31 for LS-WX2.0TL/R1 2TB - LinkStation Duo - LS-WXL/R1, all I need to do to make it dissapear from NASNavi 2.24 and make its web interface freeze is to attach one external 2.0TB USB drive (Hitachi SimpleTech HSD2000).  Since the web interface is frozen, there is no way to reformat it to XFS but the files on the NAS are still accessible from a Windows computer, in spite of the web interface being frozen.  With no USB drive attached, web interface seems a little more responsive then 1.26.  Compared with the web interface in my other Buffalo NAS products (HD-120LAN,  LS-W1.0TGL-R1, and LS-CH1.0TL-R) this is the least functional and slowest, by a very wide margin - the attempt to make it "nicer" made it much worst.

Any suggestions of how to make 1.31 work correctly with external USB drive in a LS-WX2.0TL/R1 would be greatly appreciated; not sure if I still want to update the LS-CHL to this revision.....

Same behaviour with a Calvary 2TB external USB drive, formatted NTFS - NAS unit is no longer found in NASNavigator 2.24, and the web interface becomes unresponsive, once the USB drive is attached to the NAS.

I have the same problem. Waiting for the answer.

Looks like 1.31 is better for backup to external USB then prior versions.  Completed a backup with no lockups, for the first time, from the main array, in RAID 0, to an external USB drive (XFS format for both).

-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2010/06/15 20:34:01 array1/share -> LS-4@usbdisk1 --------
sending incremental file list
created directory /mnt/usbdisk1/_backups
share/
...................................

sent 610058464904 bytes  received 1055163 bytes  2451135.83 bytes/sec
total size is 609980651625  speedup is 1.00
-------- END BACKUP 2010/06/18 17:42:09 array1/share -> LS-4@usbdisk1 --------

USB HD is a 2TB Hitachi SimpleTech HSD2000, formatted XFS.

Note:  to format the USB drive, you need to delete the default NTFS partition on another machine FIRST - if the USB drive is connected to the NAS while formatted NTFS, the web interface for the NAS locks up (waited one hour, do not know if it recovers by itself after a day or more).

Web interfce speed is still horrific, the worst of any of the other Buffalo NAS boxes I own, but functionally, it seems to work, as long as you do not hook up an NTFS formatted USB drive....

Hitachi USB drive has an "auto power on" feature; it as an external power supply, but the disk spins up and down as it "feels" the USB interface active or not.  The wake up does not work with LS-WXL/R1 - you need to disconnect / reconnect the USB drive's external power supply in order to show up in NAS Navigator.  Under System - Storage USB disk is "disconnect" (only 60 seconds or so to get the that screen).  This is true if the NAS is set to "auto" or at a cold power up.

Will try with my Calvary 2TB disk next, and report the findings.
