Title: Linkstation Mini
Post by: labdog98 on June 11, 2010, 02:44:33 PM

I have a linkstation mini and everything is working well.  However I do not have any of my approximate 45GB of music and files backed up.  I am not very technical in nature so please forgive me if my questions are improperly stated or use incorrect terminology.

Generally I would like to make sure my files are backed up.  I know the best thing to do is to back up to another drive, DVDs or something like that which I plan on doing.  In the meantime I was wondering if I could automatically backup on the NAS itself?  I have the 500GB drive which is divided into two separate 250 GB drives.  Can I have mirrored drives on there so in case the drive which currently has my music on it fails, I can switch to the other?  I also would like to have new music and/or files updated when I add additional music.

Also can someone please explain the time machine option?

Thanks.

By default the Mini comes in RAID 0, meaning everything is as one large volume between the two disks. If you have deleted it, and are using JBOD-2 independent disks-then sure, you can backup from one share to another. If you're in RAID 1 then this is already being done for you automatically.

Time machine really only applies if you're attempting to backup an Apple computer to the mini using the Time Machine software.
