Title: IP address keeps on changing - Link Station Pro 1.5TB
Post by: evostash on June 07, 2010, 05:37:47 PM

Hi All,

I have a link station pro 1.5tb, on XPpro, via wired router LinksyT54GS cable, also on the router is a Sony Bravia and a WDTV all working fine but the IP address keeps on changing mmmmm from 192.168.1.100 or 102 or 104 - which is giving me a nightmare logging on from anywhere apart from home.

I have forwarded the 9000 port because I struggled for about 2 weeks to log on from outside the house...

I have been in the router and set the DCHP Static DNS's 1,2,3 to 100, 102, 104

So on to my questions !!!

1 - why does it keep on changing IP address

2 - Do you think the ablove would solve this problems

3 - if not any help

Cheers

Matt

Matt,

Do you have your router set up as a DHCP server?  If you do, the router will periodically re-assign IP addresses to your computers, and etc.

What do you mean here?  I'm not familiar with your Linksys router, but in our Buffalo routers, the only place DNS is mentioned is when connecting to your ISP.

You can set a static IP address in the web interface of your Linkstation Pro, just make it an IP address that is in the same network as your other PCs and that it is outside your routers DHCP pool.

I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

You need to log in to the buffalo not your router and go to network and disable dhcp so that it stays on that particular ip address.
