Hi there.
I just recieved my new LS-CH2.0TL.V2.. I have been playing around for awhile, and been making folders, and copied content to them.
So far, so good... Until I was trying to make access and restrictions..
What I have hooked up is the following:
My LS is hooked to my wireless DLink router, and I got my desktop, my laptop, my PS3, my WDTV mediaplayer and my GF's laptop connected aswell.
I have created the following users: Me on my desktop, one for the laptop, one for my WDTV, one for GF, and one for guests.
This is the structure I've created on my LS: (And this is the access-settings I would like, but can't get to work)
Root.
->Fileserver (All enter here)
->Media (Open for all)
->Audio (Open for all)
->Pictures (Open for GF's laptop, my laptop, my desktop and WDTV)
->Video (Open for all)
->Backup (Open for my desktop, GF's laptop and my laptop)
->My desktop (Open for my desktop only)
->My laptop (Open for my desktop and mylaptop)
->GF's laptop (Open for my desktop and GF's laptop)
I hope you'll understand what I''m trying to achive ?
Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it ?
I'm a noob networking, but have quite good knowledge using computers
PS: I'm using Win7 on most pc's, and have firmware 1.21 on my linkstation.
Thank you,
Northy
It looks like your doing it correctly except when you set permissons on the unit you have to make sure that you have no mapped drives. Also you will need to restart your PC Windows likes to keep credentials:smileywink:. After the PC has restarted then go and set the restrictions. After they are set you will have to map the shares starting with the most restricted share first and working down from there. To test it out to make sure it works create a test folder and try it.
Wow, thanks for the exceptionally fast reply... I'm impressed :)
I tried what you suggested...
I got the following error message:
Error while securityinformation etc etc \\linkstation\fileserver\backup.. Access denied.
I'm sorry, it's a little difficult to translate everything to English.
I might have been setting something wrong in there earlier, when I was struggling.
Do you know a way to reset all security settings for my linkstation in win7 ?
Thanks,
Northy
Edit 1: It says: Cannot store changes in permissions for fileserver (\\Linkstation) Access denied
Edit 2: I'm formating my LS, and will try again from scrach..
Try mapping the drive via IP address instead of hostname try that after the format.
I formatted the drive, and was set for a new try...
Same result :(
I'll try to explain better..
I made some users in webadmin. So far, so good.
I haven't mapped the drive yet.
In Win7 explorer, I go to network, and navigate to my LS.
There I got two folders; Info and share. I'll rightclick share, go to properties and press the security tab.
Objectname: \\Linkstation\share
Group- or usernames:
All, root (Unix User\root), and root (Unix group\root) <- That's default I believe ?
Then I want to add me as a specific user. I press "Edit", and "Add user" I write my name, as stated in the webadmin\user... And press ok.
Now in Group- or usernames:
All, Northy (Linkstation\Northy), root (Unix User\root), and root (Unix group\root. I press Ok.
Now what I get is: "Error using security. An error occured while security settings was applied for \\Linkstation\share". "Access denied". Then "Cannot save changes in access for share (\\linkstation)"
"Access denied".
PS: The error messages may not be a 100% correct translated
Anybody got a clue ??
What is wrong here ?
Thank you,
Northy
