Title: LinkStation Quad 4TB not visible on network without PC running NASNavigator2 software
Post by: SSBasra on May 28, 2010, 03:14:42 PM

I have a Linkstation Quad which I have connected to my network switch (Net GS116 Gigabyte switch) and 3 PC's a& 2 laptops.  All the PC are hard wired to the switch and the laptops via a sky(Netgear) wifi router.   One of the PC has the buffalo NaSNavigator2 Software on it.  When this machine is switched off /rebooted the NAS is not visible until from any other PC/Laptop until it has booted up again and the NAS software has found the NAS drive, even if the other pcs are accesssing the NAS at the time.

Is this normal?  I thought you were supposed to be able to run this without any PC's on?  Have I missed a trick?

This is a new NAS that has been recently been replaced by buffalo

If you have the power switch on the Linkstation set to "AUTO" then the LS will power down when the PC with the nas navigator is switched off.

Either install the nas navigator on all the PC and leave the switch to auto OR move the switch to "ON".

If you leave the switch to on then the Linkstation will always be powered up.
