Title: Samsung HD103UI HDD inside Linkstation fried
Post by: Pottypotsworth on May 14, 2010, 01:19:15 AM

Hey all,

Not really a question as such but just some information. I bought my linkstation from Amazon.co.uk and recently emigrated to the Philippines, i brought my link station over in my bag and although i wrapped it well when i tried to power it up, nothing happened.

After checking on the Buffalo site and seeing the ridiculous returns policy (has to be sent to the USA, can't be shipped back to any other country than the USA) i decided to crack open the case to find out what was wrong.

I took the HDD out, and once i disconnected it then the unit itself powered on. If i put another HDD into the linkstation then it works, but my HDD with about 600GB of data on it is totally fried. If i connect it to a PC it prevents the PC from even turning on so i think the PCB had blown.

Since i am here in the Philippines it is almost impossible for me find the exact model HDD without it costing stupid money, Samsung say that they don't have wordwide warranty, so umm once it actually left Bufallo HQ i had no protection on the HDD anyway.

So i have a linkstation which is out of warranty because i couldn't ship it/have it shipped back and a HDD which Samsung refuse to replace, on top of that i lost all my data.

Just a little story really.
